Verna Stilwell, 97 of Zanesville passed away January 30, 2018 at The Oaks at Bethesda. She was born August 27, 1920 in Zanesville the daughter of Edwin and Daisy (Powers) Riggle. Verna was a member of Coburn United Methodist Church, previously Eastern Star, Ladies Elks, Ladies Auxiliary of VFW, and American Legion Auxiliary.
Verna is survived by sons Jack Stilwell and Jim Stilwell both of Zanesville; a daughter Judi Martino of Beverly Hills, California; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Stilwell and Travis Stilwell of Zanesville, Abbey Beach of Evergreen, Colorado, Lindsey Ferguson of Marion, Ohio and Alison Martino of Beverly Hills. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Verna was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dale; brothers Paul Riggle, Carl Riggle, Ernie Riggle; Sisters Thelma Grigsby and LilyAnn Friel; a daughter-in-law Donna Barron Stilwell; a granddaughter Jacqui Stilwell and son-in-law Al Martino.
Verna and Dale had a wonderful group of friends that they shared such happy times with at frequent parties, days on the river, playing cards, Ohio State tailgate parties, and fun conventions. For several years Verna enjoyed and was a loyal member of The Field House where she attended the senior water class and there met many new friends. Verna also enjoyed her many trips to Atlantic City to see and hear her son-in-law, Al Martino sing at the casinos. She also loved doing crossword and Cryptoquote puzzles, traveling to California, local bus trips to the nearby casinos and she dearly loved her cats, Sunny and Dolly Emma. Verna was always very stylish and loved rings, pins and hats. She will always be remembered for her kind, sweet and gentle spirit.  
A private family gathering, funeral service and burial will be held at a later date.
