Patricia “Pat” M. Kelly, 92 of Zanesville passed away on March 11, 2022 at The Clay Gardens Place in Zanesville where she was a longtime resident.

Pat was born in 1929 in Maryland and spent her childhood in the quaint mountain town of Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania and in Pittsburgh. She attended Edinboro State Teachers College in Pennsylvania and Penn State University. Patricia was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. As a direct descendent of Oliver Wendell Holmes, she had a gift for all things literary. She studied English and French literature. Her work-study assignments were on the Penn State Agricultural farm and also as an assistant to Penn State President Milton Eisenhower, younger brother of U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Born just weeks before Black Thursday of the Great Depression, frugality was a guiding principle her entire life. She knit socks for soldiers in high school to support the WWII war effort and also, learned to swim should young women be called into service.

She is survived by two daughters: Anne (Walter) Buck of Aurora, Colorado and Susan (Umesh) Pahwa of Dublin, Ohio, 2 grandchildren and a great granddaughter.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, George D. Kelly, a WWII Army Airforce veteran, to whom she was married for 56 years. They lived in Massachusetts and Colorado before moving to Ohio.

Pat was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She touched the lives of many people and imparted kindness, wisdom and a sense of determination. She enjoyed piano, collecting cookbooks and recipes, reading classics, and studying languages. She was a life-long swimming enthusiast, having completed the American Red Cross 50-mile swim program several times. She was a volunteer swim instructor & supported her husband in his wrestling coaching at Maysville High School. Pat spent many summers traveling and camping and creating memories throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico with her family. Patricia loved beaches, mountains, and NYC Broadway shows. She was a shopper par-excellence and had a good eye for bargains and quality.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the caring staff at Clay Gardens Place and Shrivers Hospice Services.

No calling hours will be observed. According to her wishes, a caring cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted with the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home, 2318 Maple Ave., Zanesville. The family will have a private interment of ashes service at a V.A. National Cemetery.
