Mary Clare Gonder McKee, 74 of Newark died surrounded by her family at 6:05 AM Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at her residence under the loving care of Generations Hospice and the Home Instead Senior Care.
She was born on Thursday, September 3, 1942 in Zanesville the daughter of J. Alan Gonder and Mary Catherine (Shriner) Gonder.
Mary was a lover of animals and worked as a Veterinary Technician with Dr. Denhart for many years. She later joined the Ohio Department of Transportation regional offices located in Licking County. She enjoyed outdoor pursuits such as hiking, skiing and running. Mary also enjoyed writing and travelling.
She is survived by her husband, Eddie “Ed” T. McKee of Newark, her son, Jeff “Fly” (Lynn) Garrison of Zanesville, a daughter, Theresa (Najib) Mahmood of Woodbridge, VA and four grandchildren: Seth and Jessica “Jessie” Garrison of Zanesville and Rashad and Idrees Mahmood of Woodbridge, VA, step children; Paula Drumm , Jon (Tara) McKee, and Steve (Beth) McKee and step grandchildren Travis (Fiance Fallon Gawry) Drumm, Tiffany (Justin) Rine, Tristan McKee, Kanyon McKee, Cierra McKee and Ariel Rodia and step great grandchild Kenzlie Robyn Rine; a sister-in-law, Roberta "Bobbie" J. Rittberger Gonder; a niece, Debbie Gonder West, a Nephew, Mike (Judy) Gonder and her lifelong friend, Isabel (Roy) Lincoln Palmquist and her special pet cat, Molly.
Mary was preceded in death in addition to her parents by her brother, John Gonder who coincidentally died May 23rd as well, a special aunt, Claire Shriner and a step son-in-law, Robin Drumm.
Friends may call one hour prior on Friday, May 26, 2017 at the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home with funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM with Fr. William A. Hritsko officiating. Burial will conclude at the Mt. Olive Cemetery, East Pike.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Animal Shelter of your choice.
