December 17, 1926 ~ August 9, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old
Leo Ambrose Colopy, 90, of Zanesville, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Leo was born on December 17, 1926 to the late Germanus Stanton and Selora Jane (Arnold) Colopy. He married Phyllis Anne Dodrill on September 9, 1950 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
   Leo served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII, was employed by American Light for 50 years, a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, current member of St. Mary Mattingly Settlement and the Knights of Columbus Council 505. He volunteered many hours with the Resurrection Choir for funerals at St. Thomas, St. Nicholas, St. Ann’s and St. Mary Mattingly Settlement, the Folk Choir at St. Thomas and a member of the Y-City Barbershoppers for over 35 years where he sang in a quartet with his son, Dr. Kevin Colopy. Playing Euchre, gardening, telling a joke and his willingness to share his knowledge and wisdom of “fixing things” will forever be in the hearts of his family and friends.
   Leo is survived by his wife, Anne, of 66 years: six children, Craig (Bonnie) Colopy of Brookfield, WI; Terry Colopy of Sycamore, IL; Dr. Kevin (Mary Jane ) Colopy of Zanesville; Tom (Leslie) Colopy of Nashport; Lora (Jon) Anders of Nashport and Eric (Karen) Colopy of Zanesville.; thirteen grandchildren: Jenne (John) Liber, Sara Colopy, Brian(Erica) Colopy, Kyle (Ali) Colopy, Michelle (Michael) Gromofsky, Erin, Adam and Kurt Colopy, Jesse, Jeremy and Josh Anders, Austin and Abbey Colopy; three step grandchildren: Jennifer (Ted) Marum, Jessica Mahnke and Michael (Stefanie) Mahnke; six great-grandchildren: Meaghan, Joshua, Maggie, Emily, Violet and Eleanor; six step great-grandchildren: Addison and Teagan Marum, Riley, Connor, Dylan and Graham Mahnke; sisters-in-law Jo Ann and Beatrice Colopy and many nieces, nephews and friends.
   Leo was preceded in death by five sisters: Emmaretta (Cletus) Kirwen, Edith(Paul) Stull, Rose Mary Colopy, Mildred (John) Tulloss, Joan (Donald) Winbigler; five brothers: Germanus (Louise), John (Betty), Arnold, Carl and Earl Colopy.
   Memorial Contributions can be made to Falls Township Fire Department and the Y-City Barbershoppers.
   Friends may call from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM with Rosary at 2:30 PM, Sunday, August 13, 2017 at the Bryan and Hardwick Funeral Home, 2318 Maple Avenue, Zanesville, OH and also one hour prior to mass in St. Francis Chapel of the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Monday, August 14, 2017 at St. Mary Mattingly Settlement, 6280 St. Mary’s Road, Nashport, OH with Fr. Don Franks as celebrant. Burial with Military Honors will be at St. Mary Mattingly Settlement Cemetery.
   The family would like to express our thanks to all the Drs., nurses, Hospice and especially the staff at Primrose for all the love and care you have given Leo. A special thank you to Fr. Don for his spiritual guidance and compassion.
   We love you, Dad, and cherish the many memories we have of your love and joy!
