Janet "Jan" E. Hayhurst, 67 of Norwich died at 2:17 PM Monday, November 20, 2017 surrounded by her family and under the caring and supportive staff of the Beckett House and Interim Hospice Care.
She was born January 29, 1950 in Zanesville the daughter of Byron A. Johnson and Mary J. (Nolan) Johnson.
Janet was Methodist by faith and graduated from John Glenn High School. She also graduated with a Master’s Degree from Ohio University in education. She was a 2nd grade schoolteacher with Norval Park School, then Wilson Elementary and retired from Zanesville City Schools after 30 years of teaching. She enjoyed flower gardening and was a member of the Trade & Spade Garden club. Jan also enjoyed her pets, reading and working word puzzles.
Janet is survived by her husband Charles W. Hayhurst whom she married Dec. 22, 1979; her sisters, Eileen G. Johnson of Reynoldsburg, Phyllis June Johnson of Sonora, Brenda (Larry) Whissel and Linda (Jay) McConnell both of Zanesville; brothers, Byron W. "Joe" Johnson of Zanesville, William (Karen) Johnson of Zanesville; a sister-in-law, Ella Mae Johnson of Zanesville; several nieces & nephews and great nieces and nephews; and her beloved pet dogs, Emma Sue and Zoey Two; and numerous friends including a special family friend, Donna Wortman. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, John W. Johnson and a sister-in-law, Martha Johnson.
Friends may call 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday, November 24, 2017 at the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home with funeral service at 1:00 PM with Rev. John Sellers officiating. Burial will conclude at the St. Paul Cemetery, Sonora Ohio.
